it seems like tourists are everywhere in the city during summer. i was in greenwich and west village last weekend, and all the bars were full of tourists. what places in the city should i go to that are reasonably tourist free? also, recommendations on nice bars and lounges would be deeply appreciated since i hate dance clubs. thanks.

brroklyn, east village bars,

I haven't seen any double-deckers try to fit through the LES streets yet.
I don't mind tourists at night though... next day they'll ask for your email versus your number

I wasn't trying to be helpful, I was trying to point out how ridiculous it is for an effective tourist to look down on actual tourists.
I actually agree with
I actually agree with Juwanna.
To be honest, I've lived in NYC for 5 years, and most bars (good ones) are not home to native NYers. So, I'm not sure if you just confused Manhattan transplants for tourists. I don't know many TOURISTS that go to J-Tree, Off the Wagon, [insert other NYU/MH novelty bar], but they are definitely heavy on the first year/second year of living in NYC types. Not to mention, most decent bars have an influx of the interns during the summer. I don't mind though, what's better than meeting a hot southern girl going crazy in the big city for a few months?
That's a tough one...I grew
That's a tough one...I grew up in NYC, and for the most part nice bar/lounge = well known bar/lounge which = full of non-natives. Even if a place is nice and not well known, you can be sure it won't stay that way for long. I think for the most part you can pretty much just aim for places that aren't that nice, or so baller and expensive that tourists just can't afford it. Other than that, I think you just kinda have to grow to accept them...they're as much a part of the Manhattan as a slice of pizza.
