Non Tourist Areas in Manhattan?

it seems like tourists are everywhere in the city during summer. i was in greenwich and west village last weekend, and all the bars were full of tourists. what places in the city should i go to that are reasonably tourist free? also, recommendations on nice bars and lounges would be deeply appreciated since i hate dance clubs. thanks.

brroklyn, east village bars, alphabet city places, shitty places in hells kitchen will prbly be tourist free. there are cool bars in every area of the city though. just avoid the cheesy places (J-tree, mercury bar, offthewagon, etc)

Well said.

A few good bars in Nolita.

how is that helpful?

As other people mentioned, Alphabet City is usually pretty tourist-free.

I actually agree with Juwanna.

To be honest, I've lived in NYC for 5 years, and most bars (good ones) are not home to native NYers. So, I'm not sure if you just confused Manhattan transplants for tourists. I don't know many TOURISTS that go to J-Tree, Off the Wagon, [insert other NYU/MH novelty bar], but they are definitely heavy on the first year/second year of living in NYC types. Not to mention, most decent bars have an influx of the interns during the summer. I don't mind though, what's better than meeting a hot southern girl going crazy in the big city for a few months?
