Now TARP can be repaid....whats next for international student

Hey everyone,

Just curious, since now all the bulge brackets are allowed to repay the TARP money, do you think they will be able to sponsor visa for international students again?? Thank you for your input

Assuming they are allowed to exit the program completely, they would have no problem hiring internationally again. However, the process isn't as simple as just stroking a check for the amount borrowed and then parting ways with the Treasury.

There are warrants involved as well, and they have to be independently valued by both the company and the Treasury, and then a mutual agreement must be reached for the re-purchase of the warrants by the bank. If the bank cannot/will not re-purchase the warrants, the Treasury can sell them on the Street, but doesn't have to. As long as the warrants are still in Treasury hands, the bank still has to play by Treasury rules - even after they've repaid their TARP money.

This is why the only banks to have repaid the money so far are the banks that never accepted the money in the first place.

Not shilling for the TARP guide here, but the chapter on TARP repayment goes into a lot more detail.
