Odd Situation for Internship

As the title says. I have one.

I am now a Junior in Geology (going to double in Economics) but due to a mandatory summer study program I am staying in school until Fall 2015 (not the only reason, lots of opportunities to pursue here).

That being said, my Summer 2014 will be free. I can, and am interested in, pursuing an I-banking internship. The problem is that while my grades/extracurriculars/fit side stuff is all strong, I won't have a previous internship (chance that I may start a clothing company). Keeping in mind that I am great at networking, is it even worth the effort?

-At a...semi target? People get hired here a lot, top 20 public
-long term career goals focus around starting or funding mining operations.
-planning to spend some years at a major miner in a field and then management role before top MBA
-Most interested in , ENTREPRENEURSHIP, VENTURE CAPITAL, then Private Equity, than Investment banking (strategic use of caps to demonstrate interest).

Thoughts? Thanks.

Here is one thought; though you may "be" a junior, you're effectively a sophomore planning to graduate early. Moreover, just because you do not have a previous internship does not mean you should just give up; many kids from my school, a semi-target I like to think as well, who did not have previous internships got interviews with bofa, citi, gs, ms, etc. It just depends on how you leverage your current interest in the industry and spinning your extra curricular in a way conducive towards show casing that interest/passion.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you most likely will not be able to land a VC internship in my opinion; are there any notable firms who do offer internships (and recruit at not only ivys? Same with PE, definitely going to be much harder because fewer PE shops have structured internship programs, many times its just having a connection. Shoot for investment banking although your strategic capitalization of only "investment" conveys your interest lol.

I'm also shooting for various internships; as of now, I feel like many BBs are winding down recruiting at least at my school. Many boutiques are actively recruiting now however so I'd shoot for them perhaps? PM me if you want to chat
