On Campus Firm-Office Hours At Targets (Junior At target school losing IB hope)

I'm a pretty active user, but I'd rather not use my normal account for this.

Feeling pretty shitty about myself, A lot of the banks come on campus and hold "office hours" where they meet with a few students one-on-one to answer any questions. For the 3 banks that have done this so far, I've been rejected from all of them. I have a good GPA and relevant extra curriculars. If I'm not even good enough for an opportunity to ask these guys, questions do I have any shot of being chosen to interview at these places?

The last 2 months, on average I've been doing 3 networking calls per week every week. All with analysts. Gotten my resume past along once. Only had one call that I think was memorable because of how awkward it was for some reason. Most of the calls I think I've left the impression that I'm a nice guy, but not too many great connections.

Not to worry, that's usually how networking calls go. That being said, are you effectively following up? Frankly, bankers handle a lot of networking calls, so everyone kind of blends together. When you apply to an office hour (I don't even know what those are, my bank never did them and I never saw them in recruiting), you should follow up with the people you've networked with at the bank - say something like "Thanks again for taking the time to speak with me - it was a pleasure. I just applied to an office hour chat (or whatever) and am really looking forward to an opportunity to connect with more people at the bank. Is there anything I can do to help increase my chances of meeting XYZ?" This type of note works for interviews too.

I'd also take the time to network with associates and VPs and senior bankers. The more senior someone is, the less they are involved in recruiting (usually) but the more pull they have. You can send the same type of follow up note.

No, I meant the individuals that would be coming to the office hour. If you don't know who specifically is coming, you can just say something like you're looking forward to meeting additional people through the office hours or something along those lines.

Oh ok, so (if i'm interpreting that correctly) basically say something that implicitly asks them who the people coming for the office hours are. Because If I get the names then I can connect with the people coming regardless of whether or not I'm chosen for the office hours?

The people who come to these usually aren't particularly important people. they are bankers of varying levels of importance, usually alum.

Thanks again for the response by the way.

No, I think you're still misunderstanding. If your goal is to get an office hour invite, then when you say to someone you have already spoken with: "Great speaking with, thanks for the time, blah blah blah really interested, Is there anything I can do to help increase my chances of attending an office hour to get to meet more of the bank team?", you are implicitly asking them to prioritize you and give you a slot to go to the office hours.

Ideally then you get an office hour slot, and you make a good impression, and then come interview season, you can follow up with a similar message: "Great speaking with you last fall, thanks again for the time, blah blah blah, I'm really interested in your bank, is there anything I can do to help increase my chances of getting an interview?" And then hopefully you kill the interview and get an offer.

You can't go into networking expecting people to remember you. You have to follow up and remind them of what you are looking for, but balance that with being not too pushy, which is the intent/gist of the message I am outlining. Hope that clears things up.

I've never heard of OCR "office hours." If you don't mind saying, which firms are doing this?

When I was in school there was usually an info session, a "coffee chat" (another info session, same material), and interviews.
