Options

Hi All,

Would appreciate feedback from members on my situation and options.

I recently resigned from a strategy consulting firm as an Associate. I was due for promotion to Senior Associate in about 6 months. I now have a couple of options to select from - (a) Associate at a similar firm (think ATK, RB, OW etc.) with tenure credit meaning I have 1 year to promotion and (b) Manager (Senior Associate) at a firm that's not really a strategy consultancy (think Capgemini etc.). I'm in my mid-30s, joined strategy consulting quite late so am concerned that I need to think about career progression as a priority.

Pros of option (a) are more interesting work, better brand, smarter people

Pros of option (b) are immediate career progression and more money in the short term (next year or two incl. a substantial signing bonus)

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Good question pnb2002. I resigned because my company was acquired and most of the SA and above leadership left. I didn't like the direction the firm was taking post acquisition and rather than wait around decided to quit as well. I really enjoyed the work until the end. I guess my real question is --> are two years of a non-MBB strategy consultancy brand sufficient to leverage in the future or would a couple of years more help? Also, would an associate role for 1 year and then SA for 1 year in such a firm carry more weight than 2 years as SA at a "less premium" firm? I plan to stay in consulting for the next 3-5 years for sure and then evaluate options again.
