Are oxford shirts (RL, VV, and the like) too casual for interviews and day-to-day office work?

They are definitely too casual for interviews.
Fine for work and too casual for the interviews.
Definitely not for interviews, depends for the office. No one in my shop wears them though.
No to interviews and no to office wear (unless you're wearing khakis with it).
Interviews should be very formal unless they specifically tell you to dress otherwise. Suit, dress shirt, tie, dress shoes, dress socks, nothing casual. For work it depends on the office. Find out the rules and wear what everyone else is wearing. Some BBs might want you to be formal everyday while some prop shops don't care if you show up in your pajamas.
There is nothing wrong with wearing an oxford shirt with a tie - just pick one from a good shirt maker, the key is that it is not cheap and not too casual

If your firm's dress code is business casual, oxford shirts are usually fine. If you're wearing a suit, then it might be better to go more formal.
What is up with all this hatred for Oxford shirts?! Yes, don't wear a Tommy Hilfiger one, or a linen one - but a slim fit from bb or jpress looks absolutely fine with a suit - better look than tools who wear spread collars...
