Marlin & Associates

Anyone know anything about these guys? Been doing my own research and due diligence and they look prestigious in the middle market with a lot of previous deals done. What do you guys think about this firm?

Also, any thoughts on what the interview will be like or has anyone gone through it before? Thanks!

I interviewed with them before. They seemed really nice, however they explained the summers there would not be like regular summers. They are so small ( >10 people) that you spend a ton of time doing random research, not really doing much valuation work, and odd end tasks. They are also apparently trying hard to get there name out there. However, the flip side is that everyone I met was really nice and they were not dicks like you might get at other places.

It's definitely a boutique firm, so it's not even comparable to MM firms like Jefferies. It looks like they only get 5-6 deals done a year. By "middle market," they're referring to the size of the firms they represent- most boutique firms deal with these sizes of firms anyways.

I interned there this past summer. I really like the place - everyone is super nice but expect you to do your work diligently. They source separate deals to each of their summers - but be sure to ask for assignments if you haven't gotten any. Make sure you make yourself heard and seen. You do a lot of salesforce database stuff, as well as finding good candidates for marketing calls that you sit on yourself. However, make sure to absolutely ask for valuation work and deal-specific work - if you don't ask for it, you might not get it.

They are quite active on Financial vendors space, and is well recognised in the deals they have done. I do get the impression that it's like a one man show though as you seen founder's name and picture on all their marketing materals.

I interned at Marlin last summer and really enjoyed the experience. Its a small firm, so you get a ton of exposure to all of the bankers, including the founders. They were all great people, across the board. I also got to sit in on client meetings which was awesome and is generally unheard of for an intern at other banks. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

From a strictly business perspective, they are a really solid bank. While they don’t have a ton of people, they’ve been the sole advisor on a lot of interesting deals, and some very big ones as well. They are primarily focused on Fintech, and that gives them a great advantage in the space.
