Phone call, Meeting or Both?
I contacted an alumni requesting either a phone call or a meeting when I am in town for break. He said he is happy to do speak with me on the phone and/or meet with me when I'm in town.
I responded asking to talk next Thursday and meet the week of the 17th. Was this the right move? I feel like if I speak with him on the phone and then meet with him I will run out of questions and things to ask.
You won't run out once you get started, keep the phone call brief just explaining your background + goals. Then in person delve more into what he has done and how you could achieve success in the field, what you need to do, how he can help etc.
