Between these three, which would be more beneficial regarding lateraling / transferring in general (From a non- ny regional to a larger/MM firm) considering deal flow was similar throughout.

  1. Syndication
  2. Project Finance (Energy/Power/Gas)
  3. Commercial Lending
  4. DCM
  5. ECM

Thanks!

I would go with DCM or ECM. The skills learned there would be transferable to any other ECM or DCM group on the street and you may even be able to transfer to a coverage group if you wanted--I'm not exactly sure what project finance is, but it sounds like DCM with a Energy focus rather than getting the general focus from straight DCM.

syndications is markets oriented so would probably position you better for capital markets than IBD coverage. that being said, ECM/DCM certainly not put you at a disadvantage for ibd coverage. syndication and ecm/dcm are all "investment banking".

project finance is not like dcm; it is more similar to ibd coverage than capital markets.

Yes I would say DCM/ECM even though ECM skills are probably hardly transferable outside ECM.

Syndication, well it depends where.

Project finance will not get you into IBD but it's very interesting and rather similar type of work.

Commercial banking is hardly pertinent unless at senior level.
