Positive Things About IBD

I have read a lot of the threads on WSO but a lot of them seem to have a very negative attitude towards banking. I know that the hours are extremely long, the lifestyle is draining and the work can be boring - but there must also be positive things about IBD. It attracts some of the brightest undergrads out there on a yearly basis!

I think:

There are excellent exit opportunities and regardless of mindless boring work, you can develop a good financial/analystical skillset.

People you meet/work with are top notch (usually) and (depending on where you work/who you work with) senior management are leaders in their field (have worked on amazing deals etc).

It does pay well, although with recent financial news, this may not remain true. haha But its likely to remain above average.

Depending on that team you work in, the hours are not always so bad, and depending on your senior management team, the team culture is always so bad either (e.g. ECM).

What else do you think is good about IBD?

The thing is nearly everybody that come on this website know all the pro of doing banking. Thus people that actually did it try to balance this opinion and explain what it takes to succeed. That's why you've got the impression that there is such a negative attitude towar IBD.

That pretty much sums it up, people already know all the pros of banking so all that is left to talk about on here is the cons and the obsession with exit ops (which is considered a pro anyways)
