Should I get an MBA?
I'm sure this is a common topic and I apologize!
I'm in prop trading. I lead a quant department for one of the top high-frequency trading shops in the US. I'm 25. I'm in Chicago and prefer to stay here, so I'd be going to Booth.
I'm hugely interested in entrepreneurship, and/or being a C-level guy in a startup tech firm. I love what I do, but at the end of the day there is a shelf life on this and there is also a ceiling for what I can do with it. I can likely try to move around and could be in a situation where I'm clearing 250k yearly, but I don't think that kind of salary is as easy as it would be doing the type of work I could after an MBA. My ultimate goals are to work on building tech startups as an early employee, and/or work in VC dealing with the same type of companies.
My question is basically is it worth it to me? I see some numbers on median salary of graduates at Booth, and it seems to be around $130k. Does someone with a tech-heavy and quant background have a good chance at getting above that? I make above that now, and the thought of paying $100k+ for a degree that can't even up my salary seems insane. At the same time, I don't see a good segue from where I'm at to where I want to be without going the degree route
Thanks guys!
