"Sleep advocates probably won't have to worry about orexin A reaching drugstore shelves for many years. Any commercial treatment using the substance would need approval from the Food and Drug Administration, which can take more than a decade."
Sadly...

Yeah, I saw that, but I wonder if it will hit Europe or Canada sooner, or just appear illegally. Also, I'd be interested to learn more about this:
"He also said that modafinil, which is marketed as Provigil by Cephalon and Alertec in Canada, has become widely used by healthy individuals for managing sleepiness."
"When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead."
Based on second hand sources, modafinil is a hell of a drug. And my friend has used almost every single method for staying up ungodly hours, both legal and illegal.
What's with your double posting? Didn't you see that I posted the exact same quote earlier?

Now does this mean people will NEVER have to sleep again? or just combats sleepiness.
I mean your body recovers during the sleep cycle, so this can't be a complete sleep substitute.
I would not even take this if it were legal and proven to work. Something this unnatural can only disrupt your body patterns.
Modafinil is a medication used to cure people who have a need for excessive sleep. Its a pretty legit drug and is also recommended for those suffering from sleep deprivation. If you are worried about it being unnatural, well so is banking!
I'd be wary of messing with my REM cycles. Just because science has not yet figured out why we need sleep does not mean that we actually don't need it.
^exactly. I wouldnt mind trying it in the mornings after a shitty night, but I would never take it to replace sleep, like the saying goes, if something seems too good to be true, it almost always is...
And at least we know why ibanking is "unnatural", it's because ibankers sit in front of a screen for 16 hours a day. With this drug we dont know everything.
If anything, sleep keeps your immune system strong, whereas a drug won't. Sporadic use probably won't hurt, though.
Well let's see what happens when they test it on humans...
Anyone see "I am Legend"?
And this is coming from someone who has used many methods to avoid the need for sleep. These things may work temporarily, but your body needs sleep... it will catch up to you eventually and the results won't be pretty.
I've had to stay awake for long, long periods in my 1.5 years on this job before and it's never pleasant no matter how many drugs you use.
"A nasal spray containing a naturally occurring brain hormone called orexin A reversed the effects of sleep deprivation in monkeys, allowing them to perform like well-rested monkeys on cognitive tests."
It looks like you guys are out of the loop, they've already starting testing it in several BBs.
lol
