Spring Internship - Just finished my junior year
I just finished my junior year and have one more semester left. I am studying statistics and have intentions on going into grad school in either math finance or statistics. Since I have an extra four months where I'm off of school, I figure it's better to try and find an internship in that time, especially since certain math finance programs like candidates with work experience. I currently have no industry experience since I have been doing summer research at my university.
My problem is really I don't have too much knowledge of finance. I am a very quantitatively oriented individual and would like to use my intensive mathematical background in the future. I'm just unsure about what exactly I should be applying for and where I should be applying.
Another issue is many of the online applications various companies have is for summer internships, but I am seeking one from ideally january to the end of april. Not entirely sure how to go about doing this either.
Thank you!
Quant jobs deal a lot with this. Trading and research are other quantitative options.
Do you attend school in or near a big city? (NYC, Chicago, SF, LA, Boston ATL, Dallas, etc)
"Quant jobs" is a broad term though. I have to get experience before I know what I will want to do, but as far as my background goes, which jobs do I have the best chance of getting that are still in this field. The graduate program I am looking at in particular is stanford's math finance. They say they would like to see applicants have experience working as an analyst, though that's very broad.
Yes I am on the east coast. Location really isn't a big deal. I can move around wherever.
