Start Date Advice
Hi all, I'm starting at an MBB this summer and wanted to get some perspective on start dates. I have the option of July, September, and October. Obviously, there is an opportunity cost of missed salary to take into the equation, but what about other factors? For example, will you be "behind" your class if you start in October? In addition, I'm interested in private equity recruiting, which apparently starts up in March of your first year on the job; if this is the case, am I best off starting off as early as possible? Would love to hear some thoughts from current/former MBBers and anyone else with insight.
would help if you identified some opportunity costs anyway, why not start early?
Well, think the main opportunity cost of starting later would be 10-15k in missed salary. On the flip side, though, I'd love to have some extra time to travel/spend time with family/take the GMAT, etc.
As long as your finances allow, take the extra time now to travel and see family. I regret starting work the Monday after I graduated from u/g because I didn't have a chance for an extended break for several years. On the post-MBA side, I know people who took late MBB start dates (January!!) and were "on-track" for promotions. I can't provide any insight on PE recruiting, though..
