Starwood Capital - Beneficial to try and obtain an internship?

I am approximately 90% sure that I want to work for Starwood Capital after UG. For those who work there, have worked there, or know someone who works there, would it be more beneficial to try and obtain an internship there next summer or get a BB SA gig then go for a FT offer before graduation?

Thanks

if you had the option of the two, i'd take the starwood internship. My experience has been that its easier to get a fulltime offer where you do your internship than at a place where you only go through the interview process...

They have been doing wery well. Mainly partnering with other PE firms and buying distressed properties or bad loan portfolios. Barry Sternlicht basically created Starwood Hotels after the S&L crisis in early-90's doing the same thing he's doing today. Biggest buy so far has been $4.5B portfolio from Corus Bank. Bought it on the low with FDIC backing.

In life, you sometimes do what you have to in order to do what you want.

Bumping this wondering if anyone has any more insight on Starwood Capital? A close friend/colleague of mine who is very well connected mentioned to me the other day that he might be able to get me in the door at Starwood Capital, possibly at the associate level. Ive heard, however, that its a sweatshop and Sternlicht is a jerk and churns and burns everyone after a couple years. Any insight on this, comp, culture, etc would be very helpful.

frankly this firm kind of sucks at the analyst level. know a few kids that work there and they're all IBD rejects who used connections to land the starwood gig last minute, despite being under qualified. might be different at the higher levels but stay away if you're going in as an analyst.

also... huge mistake to pigeon-hole yourself into real estate right out of college if you're not sure that's what you want to do for the rest of your life

Hey,

Yes, they are recruiting at our school as well. Will be interviewing with them in a few weeks. Don't really know what to expect though. Would be a great opportunity for a PE position.
