Student, Trader, Future Wall Street Guy
Hey WSO, my name is Brandon and I am 18 years old currently living in Southern California. I am going into my 2nd year of Community College at Santa Barbara City College studying economics and plan to transfer to either UCSB or UCLA Fall of 2017. I have been day trading since February, mainly commodities through derivatives which really opened my eyes into the world of financing and it is something I really love to do and could see myself enjoying the 80 hour weeks that analysts' start off with. I have been looking into summer internships this next summer coming up, although the "Big 4" on Wall Street are completely out of my league considering the school that I am going to, I still plan on sending in an application to intern at those firms. Thanks for reading my Introduction guys and good luck with any future goals or investments!
good luck with everything. don't ever think something is "out of your league". you can do anything you want :)
no no silly.... The big 4 are the accounting firms. The bulge bracket are you are referring when you are talking about the prestigious institute. Dont worry Ucla is a pretty respected name in finance(albeit not at the lvl of ivy league) but neverethless it still respected if you work hard, demonstrate interest , and network. Charles schwab is a massive name in finance that is stationed in California.Actually ,you are perfect match for charles schwab because they specialize in trading.
Hey Brandon :) I want to wish you luck and faith in yourself! You can achieve everything you want!
If you work in trading, or even in securities/markets on the buyside, you won't typically be dropping 80hr weeks. That's more in line with sell side bankers.
Apply for the things you think are the most cool, you will be surprised what you can get.
It is always great to meet and read about people who have ambition, I too just start looking into finance last year after taking the financial accounting and financial management classes, it certain is a different world from the world of science and technology which is where I spent most of my career. Studying for the series 7 has certainly opened my eyes even further.
