He everybody,
I had a question about tax returns. Just received my signing bonus and it was taxed 30%! I don't mind to pay taxes ( as I'm a liberal socialist guy from Amsterdam and we have personal income taxes up to 52%) but I heard that you can get this tax back because I don't live in the UK yet and do not enjoy all the nice things that you receive when you live in the UK. Anybody have a idea on this? Thanks

I start in July and the bonus was 3000K (not yet taxed) now and 1000K relocation (not sure when I will receive that) which will probably also be taxed same as signing. How does it work btw with your uni debt, can you deduct the monthly payments of your salary and then it's taxed?

As for deducting uni debt, that would be nice too, but although I'm no tax specialist I can tell you there's no way that would happen. Mortgages don't exempt you from taxes for example.
You will be able to claim back a fair amount of taxes paid in your first tax year though...
