Thoughts on using Yesware for cold emails?
As a junior at a non-target who hasn't landed anything yet for the summer, I've resorted to cold emailing to try to set up informational interviews which hopefully lead to formal interviews. I've done this in the past and didn't get many responses so this time when I learned about Yesware I definitely wanted to try it so I could see what percentage of my emails get opened and don't get a response. Through using this software, I've learned that about 80% of emails that get opened get a response, which tells me that my email format and resume probably aren't that bad if people are taking the time to respond. The only problem that I see with the program is it tells me that people have opened my message like 20 times or at really weird times like 4AM.
Have any of you monkeys used Yesware before and what have been your thoughts on the program?
I didn't use Yesware when I did networking, but I used a similar program, Streak. It was very helpful in terms of following up - if I saw they opened it and didn't respond, I would send them a short follow up a week later.
My email response rates were ~80% open ~50% respond (40% total) Follow up to next ~50% of opens ~80% responded to the follow up (~32%) Total response rate was ~72% of all emails after the follow up, which I thought was pretty good considering it was all cold emails to non-alumni (attended a non-target). Without Streak/following up, I would've missed out on close to half of my contacts.
Btw - for those who think it's annoying or too persistent to follow up: almost every person I followed up with said something along the lines of 'oh I meant to respond but got sidetracked, happy to help out'. Bankers/consultants are busy people and that happens. If they don't respond to your follow up, forget it and move on. But always follow up if you can.
Awesome. How exactly did you follow up? I don't know how to do it without basically saying why didn't you respond to my first email.
Generally along the lines of 'looks like we were both busy, I'm available at ___ times, but am also free to fit your schedule'. Acknowledge the fact that they were busy rather than the fact that they didn't respond - it shows you respect their time and are only following up with a friendly reminder.
Definitely going to check out Streak once my free trial of Yesware is over since Streak offers 200 tracked emails a month for free. Thanks for letting me know about this program.
No worries. Hubspot sales is also great
I also use something similar to yesware, its a google chrome extension, but I feel pretty paranoid using it so I might stop.
What makes you paranoid about it? I don't think people can tell that you are using yesware.
Yeah I'm paranoid that they might have some way of telling, idk.
There is definitely software out there that tells you if someone is tracking the email, but I highly doubt MDs care enough to download it, but still...
also, i do the opposite of you. If I see someone didn't open my email, I'll email them again. If they opened it and ignored me, I'll just move on
How most of these programs work is by inserting a blank image into the end of the email. When that image is downloaded, it sends you a notification. The fail happens when the banker/consultant/whoever has outlook set to not automatically download images - what they'll see is a small square with an x through it. Most (like 99.9% of them) have no idea what that is and won't care to check. AFAIK they have no ability to check whether you're tracking their emails, and the few that might probably don't give enough craps to do so.
there is an extension that allows you to tell who is sending tracked emails, but yea, like I said, highly doubt these guys care enough to use them

What are your guys' experience using Yesware and other email tracking softwares when cold emailing? I've been using it for a little bit recently, but I'm afraid some of the bankers I'm emailing may have a software installed that lets them know their emails being tracked.
Does anyone have any experience on this or am I overthinking it?
This lets you know if someone reads your email, how many times they open your email, etc., right? That would just make me want to pull my hair out. Just email bankers once, follow up once, and then move on if you have not gotten a reply.
Yeah I'll go back to doing that but I've been using it temporarily just to see what my cold email open rate looks like and who's been opening/responding to my emails
Yes you can tell if someone has a tracking extension. No, most people have no idea how to do that.
The only time I find it useful is when someone forwards one of my emails which shouldn't happen often due to the content of what I need to send out.
Interesting, thanks for your response.
Have you been in a situation where someone has sent you a tracked email using a software like Yesware and you've been able to identify it immediately?
It works, but it will only make you hate the people that ignore you even more knowing they opened it twice from their iphone on the train in Greenwich at 8:41am and 8:47am and once more in their office on Windows at 10:12am. In all likelihood they are probably showing people your non target email laughing at you.
You really hate to see that
I actually love Yesware. I use it every day while doing startup sales.
The best part is the fact you can A/B test based on the different templates you may be sending out. If you are planning to send out 100+ emails then it's definitely worth while.
Honestly though, you can pay much less and use SalesHandy which will tell you if people see your email, if they actually open your resume, and so on. Much cheaper, easy to use, and won't require you to actually do a lot of work (trust me setting up Yesware with all the templates, and document stuff is not a 2 minute ordeal).
Definitely do it. It'll let you know if you are using good enough subject lines or email content and allow you to tweak as you go along networking.
