I am a sociology major with a 3.9 GPA at UC Berkeley. How hard will it be for me?

sociology isnt the strongest
sociology isnt the strongest major but you have a 3.9 from a ridiculous school. read the vault guides, read the WSJ and watch CNBC. you should have a good shot.
Obviously socieology=finace.
Obviously socieology=finace. Lol. nonetheless, a lot of people would kill to get into UCB and having an almost perfect GPA there is very impressive. i dont think your major will have much (if any)effect on getting an internship. you got it. just show them yu know your stuff
Reality hits you hard, bro...
I can't believe people
I can't believe people assume that the guy has a "good shot" simply because of a 3.9 GPA. I'm not saying that he won't get a position, but there's definitely no way to tell strictly based on GPA. I've seen 3.4s get offers and I've seen 3.9s get rejected w/o interviews. It's not uncommon.
That DeviousBanker posted a simple 1 line post asking about his chances concerns me a lot more than that he goes to a non-target or that he majors in Sociology. Otherwise, he'd post other qualifications or additional relevant evaluative materials. From the original post, it sounds like he doesn't really know what a bank is looking for, and is depending on his GPA to get him a position. It won't.
I'm just worried because of
I'm just worried because of the Haas kids at CAL...I don't know if they'll just reject me for a Haas kid. I've read the Vault guides and study them daily, and try to keep myself informed of current events in the WSJ.
Someone in banking told me since my major is sociology they won't drill me on complicated finance questions like they would a finance major; they will just test me on the basics. I'm not sure how accurate that is.
I just hope I can go to the fair on campus, drop my resume off and hopefully get an interview with a few legit BB's.
Am I confined to California, or would I be able to apply to NYC?
Berkeley is most DEFINITELY
Berkeley is most DEFINITELY NOT a non-target.
You have a decent shot. Depends on your XC's, internships, which I assume you do not have any. They will GRILL you on why IB, and you better have a great answer. They will drill you on basic finance/accounting questions, but that totally depends on the interviewer. You can apply to NYC all you want, but I think Cal is where you will end up.
I do agree with consulting, in that OP does not seem to know very much about IB.
The 3.9 is impressive, esp. at a state school such as Berkeley. However, it does not, by any means, guarantee you anything.
dude you have a great shot.
dude you have a great shot. work hard, dont listen to anyone who says you dont have it in the bag, read vault and network network network. 3.9 from berkeley is nonsense, regardless of the gpa. good luck and i hope to be working with you next summer.
