Interned at a megafund in their acquisitions group. Underwrote deals all summer, met with heads of investments about prospective deals, and flew out/shadowed the head of the Chicago office and toured value add opportunities. It was killer.
I had a feeling it would be a mixed bag of stories. I'd love to hear from someone on the debt side. Do they even have interns at Agency shops?

my internship at a smaller sized brokerage was bs. mostly shadowing to get a feel for what other brokers do in terms of marketing, sales, and showings. Very little analytical work.
Interned in appraisal, mainly did research (rent comps, transaction comps, economic outlook of the area etc.) and updated the reports accordingly, got to go on some property tours, kinda matched the job description as it was advertised as a research role. I was going to get underwriting experience using Argus towards the end but I left the position. Interned in multi-family brokerage, all I did was underwrite properties for BOV/ OMs, this also matched the description. My first internship was unpaid and I basically didn't do anything, it was come as you want and help with some minor grunt work, many days I'd just do the work from home.
I'm trying to get someone close to me out of their decent but not great job in the tech industry. She's a graduate from a top tier UC here in Ca with a strong background in mathematics. She's not a salesperson at all but I feel would make a great Agency underwriter. The pay advances really fast in UW...by year two she could be making $115k plus 25% bonus.
I've got about 3 or 4 agency loans coming up and in order to get her some CRE debt experience I've thought of making her an intern for these deals and my other deals so she can have a slightly stronger resume. She'd be loan sizing, completing loan apps, SOR's and stacking files for me is what I'm guessing.
I interned on a debt team at a jll/cbre type company. Day to day was listening in on calls, putting together sales/rent/expense comps, analyzing rent rolls, helping due diligence and generally assisting analyst.

Worked with a CBRE, JLL, Cushman type for an internship in Capital Markets. Mainly spent my time writing OMs, compiling rent comps, creating property databases, etc... Gained some exposure to underwriting deals from the analysts I worked with, but never got to get my hands dirty.

I have read a lot on this forum and still have some questions about what exactly I will do as a summer analyst? I know I am staffed with an analyst or associate but what will I do for them? Any insight will be helpful.
you will find out what an analyst does inside and out, you will do the work that they assign you and that you are capable of doing. this may be research or a host of other activities.
you're going to love it dude. i did it and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. i wouldn't worry so much.
get lunch, make photocopies, be the butt-end of practical jokes - the usual stuff.

Now that were half way done with our SA program what type of work have you been doing? Have you guys been modeling? My work has consisted of PIB's, working on random slides for pitch books, updating comps, and shit like that. Also, my bank has a conference coming up, so I have been putting together a shitload of profiles on companies presenting for a book we distribute at the conference. I am not complaining, I am very luck to be working as a SA ( I come from a nontarget with a mediocre gpa, just networked my ass off) but am just curious as if others are doing a whole lot more than me? I knew I would be doing the grunt of the grunt work, but I thought I would be doing some modeling.
Note: I am at a MM firm, less known, but known in the space we work in.

built a model and worked on about 2-3 live deals. i have done a handful of pibs and profiles, but that tends to be a small fraction of my work. most of it is between putting together presentations for deals, updating models, comps, etc.
i'm at one of the large mms, but to be honest, so far, the deal sizes have been at the high end of middle market. 1 billion transaction size or so.
BB in HK. Have worked on 3 live deals, built 1 model, and modified 2 models.
at a MM firm. Worked on 2 merger models, tons of comps and M&A comps (from pitchbooks to live deals). Teams are lean so interns are expected to pitch in. Helped with the S1 drafting...
there are also random and monkey work... I just highlighted the cool work to make myself feel better working on a Sunday afternoon

agreed. I was quite persistent, and made the first one alongside the analyst to compare the accretion/dilution and sensitivity analysis. After he was sure I wasn't just good with playdough, he let me do the 2nd one by myself.
Market Risk: presentation on volatility swaps, put call parity testing, sensitivity testing, reviewed pricing models for swaptions, extendibles, barriers In the downtime while waiting for work I signed up for a lot of training courses from excel to option strats, read a lot of WSJ/WSO/yahoo finance/bloomberg 11ish hour workdays
Currently at a MM bank, doing a lot of industry research, database work, buyers lists, comps, and pitch book slides.
