what is needed for asset management?

HI all,

I am a recent post grad from a top business school in the UK. I have an international background and a variety of experiences including an internship in a financial services business. I am very interested in investments particularly in ventures, real estate and a variety of other areas. More importantly I would like to know of a good field to focus on within investment management.

I am also not terribly analytical or maths focussed. Could anyone tell me what the best are would be to focus on?

Thanks a lot!

If you don't consider yourself mathematical or analytical, you may be looking at the wrong career paths. Finance is all math and analytical reasoning. Which is not to say that you necessarily need advanced math classes or anything, but comfort with numbers is important in just about every finance job. Other skills, such as building financial models in Excel, require comfort with logical reasoning, and some (very) basic programming concepts.

Institutional Sales? Not really investment side but might be worth a look if you are not terribly analytical or maths focussed

Thanks for the suggestion! Which company would you suggest I look into? And would this department be willing to train someone? I have no banking experience although have a business masters (not an MBA but very similar) and pretty high up connections in banks. I am more extroverted in the sense and have many times been recommended for sales positions so in that regard you may have hit the nail on the head!

Thanks again!
