What should I do?
Hey guys,
I'm currently an undergraduate junior at Wharton concentrating in finance trying to break into IBD. The only problem is my GPA is rather low (2.9-ish). I had a bad freshman year, but since then I have done everything possible to raise my GPA as much as possible. Last semester I earned a 3.75.
I was wondering, would it be beneficial for me to stay an extra year as an undergraduate (5 years total) in order to raise my GPA to a level that will get me interviews? Also, is it good or bad to apply to a company more than once? Say I apply this academic year and get rejected because of my GPA, does it hurt my chances at the company if I apply again in 2013-2014? Lastly, how does taking 5 years to complete my undergraduate degree affect my chances of getting into a good business school? Does it look bad?
Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance.

Play the Prodigal Son card.
Play the Prodigal Son card. #1 you go to Wharton so you will get opportunities to tell your story to recruiters. #2 you are way to early to start thinking about staying 5 years (sophomore year i did not even know what banking was).
Keep trying to bring your GPA up and just have a good reason why it was low. The only real problem you might have is getting initial interviews because your GPA is lower than others. Once you have the interview, if your story makes sense then people will care much less that you drank your face off freshman year and got a 2.9.
