I am a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This semester, I tried unsuccessfully to get a Bulge Bracket I-Banking position. I had interviews with a few major firms ( , , ) and went on a Superday for in Chicago. The closest I got to an offer was being named an alternate for NY, which I am almost certain nothing will come from. Right now, I am in the process of interviewing for other positions in corporate banking and transaction services and have submitted my resume to a few MMs and Boutiques that still may be hiring.
I have always planned on graduating a year early because I will have all the requirements to fulfill my double major in Finance and Accounting by that time. However, I've recently contemplated staying for a fourth year and completing a degree in Economics and a Spanish minor or a Masters in Accountancy. Would it be best to apply to the I-Banks in the fall for full time consideration with the hopes they will be hiring for more positions or should I stay for the extra year and try again for next spring? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.
