How do promotions work (Analyst 0, 1, 2, etc)
Can anyone please explain how promotions work as an analyst? 2.5 years analyst programme, bonus is paid in Winter and promotions announced in January.
If I start in July will I be an analyst 1 for 6 months and then get promoted to analyst 2 (with salary increase) after only 6 months?
Hey TripleA_Rated, sorry about the delay, but are any of these useful:
More suggestions...
Hope that helps.

Typically analysts are just on a 2Q fiscal year; if you get to associate you'll get a stub bonus that put you on the big boy payment cycle.
Are all analysts at the same "level"? (Originally Posted: 05/12/2010)
What's the position of most banks with regard to seniority, if any, of 1st year analyst vs. 2nd or 3rd year analysts. Is it common for the 1st year analyst (when no interns are around) to get all the grunt work while the more experienced analysts pass it along?
For example, is it acceptable/normal for a 3rd year analyst to be working on a project/deal and to delegate tasks they don't want to complete (i.e. performing research, collecting data, etc.) to a 1st year analyst, or are all analysts on the same page until someone gets promoted?
No, it is never OK for an analyst to staff another analyst. Generally speaking, the only time you'll find two analysts from the same project working on a deal is when a 2nd year is about to leave and they need to transition another analyst onto a project.
3rd years get better work than 2nd years who get better work than 1st years. This, again, is just a generality. 3rd years are not exempt from the shittiest grunt work. However, their responsibilities and work do tend to be higher level than those of a 1st year.
2nd and 3rd years get to have their way with first years and interns.
