Full Time Recruiting Networking - When to start?
Hi All,
I currently attend top 10 MBA program think (CBS/Booth/Kellogg) and I was unfortunate to win SA offer for banking this summer. I will be however, going to M&A/JV focused corporate development for internship but my ultimate goal is to shoot for FT banking recruitment.
Is it too early to start networking for FT spots and how difficult will it be for me to land FT gig without banking internship? I also wonder how to spin my story given the fact that I did not land a SA spot. What do you guys recommend for my situation?
you mean you were *unable to win an SA offer... right?
No I didn't mean that.
What?
Fair enough. My advice for you going into ibd recruiting in the US: 1) Learn the English language.

Jus keep woking hadest.
yes start networking now. talk to people at your level or even junior (2-3rd year analysts) that are involved in the recruitment process to show that you are serious and want to be involved in the process (whether accelerated or OCR). it can never hurt to network as long as you dont annoy anyone and do it the right way.
When to network for FT Analyst placements? (Originally Posted: 04/14/2013)
I made some contacts as a SA and was wondering when I should reach out and express some interest in joining their specific group when I come back for FT.
Training doesn't start until July I believe, but I don't know when placements are done. (before or after training?)

Working this summer at a Large Middle Market Boutique Investment Bank. Looking to transition to a BB IB for Full Time which I know will be difficult. Didn't network for SA which hurt me, looking to learn from mistakes and start early for FT. When should I be starting?

Hi Piatt23,
I haven't received your PM. Is there anyway you could re-send it?

Hi guys--
I'm interning in BB S&T this summer (and I've interned in BB IBD at the same firm in the past, if that matters). For a variety of reasons, I'm targeting MBB for full-time recruiting.
I've never recruited for consulting in the past, so I don't have a roster of connections.
I'm wondering when I should start reaching out to recruiters/alums. I'm worried about looking capricious by reaching out to consulting alums before I even start my S&T internship...
Some stats: GPA: 3.7, target, and the BB internships mentioned above
Thanks!
Never too early.
I would start now. ASAP is the answer.
When to start networking for FT recruting in the fall? (Originally Posted: 05/29/2014)
Hey guys, I'm a rising senior and finance major at a semi-target school with a 3.8 GPA. We have about half of the bulge brackets recruit at our school (though only 3 always take people) as well as some EBs and various MM firms. I did alright with interviews for IB SA positions and went to four or five superdays, but didn't receive an offer. A few of the places I interviewed, including one BB in NYC, told me to reach out if I was still looking for full-time placement.
My question is when is it best to do this? I feel like now is still too early, but I'd like to strengthen some of those connections prior to August, as I know that some places start interviewing not long after SA stints end.
If it helps, I'm interning at a pretty well respected PE firm in NYC this summer. I took the position over some other non-IB finance jobs mainly because it was in NYC and I felt it would look better on my resume. That being said, I'm the only intern in the office (they don't really have a formal program) and I know that my chances of actually getting a full-time offer are very low regardless of how well I perform.
Also, I am in no way set on working at a BB in NYC. I realize I'm behind the curve with that and I have no problem with a solid MM firm. Basically I'm just looking to break into IB full-time once I graduate. Thanks for your help!
