When you don't have an answer....

How do you guys usually go about responding to a question in an interview when you have absolutely no idea how to answer? I had probably the most difficult interview I've ever had this past week and for 3-4 questions, I was completely lost.

Do you guys try to pull something out of your ass or just simply say that you don't know.

Is this a technical question they are asking you? I have found it best to just say that you are really not sure, say "this is what I am thinking" and then ask them if they can explain it to you. Shows you are interested in learning, but you don't look like an idiot trying to bullshit them.

If you are applying for a job straight out of Ugrad or for an internship, they don't expect you to know everything. They just expect you to know what you SHOULD know coming from your background and basic technical skills you would find in things like the WSO or Vault Guides.

Had an interview where I had no idea about the 3,4 technical questions, said I don't know and it turned out just fine. Firms don't expect you to know technical aspects of the job if youre coming from an unrelated background.
