What's a good place for nicer shoes like Alden, C&J, John Lobb, Ferragamo loafers, etc.?

I've only bought them directly from their stores and paid full retail, but are there ever discounts on those shoes?

If you want a large selection, try the fancy department stores (Barney's, Bergdorf, etc.)

If you're looking to buy the "more expensive shoes" then the retail is the place to go.

Saks had a sale six months ago with Ferragamos for like 60% off to clear out some space.... talk about a solid deal.

"Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game." - Donald Trump

Don't confuse expensive with quality. Avoid anything without a GY welt. FYI, Ferragamos are the most over hyped piece of crap you can buy.

If you ever get Ferras, please get the Tramezza line or don't bother.

What shoe brands do you consider to be good quality for their value - as in not over hyped?

Nordstrom rack is the shit. Go every once in a while and keep an eye out for "worn and refinished" shoes (doesn't mean they're used, just means they had to touch them up - either a display, scuffed up in shipping, or returned in good shape - either way they look good as new). I've gotten a pair of nice Cole Haans for $35 (85% off) and Allen Edmonds for $60 (originally $325). Every once in a while you will find steals like that. Have also seen Ferragamo loafers for around $100, unfortunately not my size.

I like Citi Shoes on Park and 56th, but mostly for service/easy comparison, not discounts. Honestly, if you want the cheapest Gucci/Ferragamo loafers possible, troll Bluefly/department store sales or buy seconds. AE is the only quality/value producer that discounts with any frequency. C&Js are cheaper if you buy them in the UK and claim the VAT refund. Alden and C&J manufacture for Brooks Brothers, including cordovan (although recent sales seem to exclude those shoes).
