Why don't we help each other out more on this site?
Seriously, there's tons of analysts/associates on this forum and tons of smart kids who are clearly motivated and capable yet no one really seems to help each other out.
I've been lucky enough to get a solid referral from one person on this site but other than answering questions and stuff, that's about it.
So, why don't the analysts on here do informationals for the college kids just like they do for their alum?
They have more important things to do I guess. Honestly, I'm happy to be on here giving and getting as much advice as I can. I'm in a lot better of a position then I was a month ago.
That said I'd love to network through WSO.
Because the number of kids you can refer/speak for is limited to certain extent. There are more than enough alumni that ask for your help without having to go onto an open forum and solicit applications. Also, this forum is anonymous and you don't know a posters true interests or whether they need help to begin with. Soliciting resumes would produce a deluge of shit that would take a while to wade through in order to get one maybe two top quality candidates. In addition, most posters don't feel comfortable posting the bank and desk that they work on so it is difficult to know exactly who could directly help you.
I do see what you're saying but, it's quite obvious who the regulars are and who the shitfesters are. Make no mistake, WSO pretty much changed my life as it is (not an exaggeration) but right now, I've exhausted my schools IB alumni and am pretty much left with WSO.
Ultimately it's online and you don't know people personally. You don't know if someone's full of it or not, though I agree that you know and can trust the regulars a bit moreso, but they could still just be some ungrateful kid posing. But, I do feel you man, 'cause I've exhausted all of my schools IB alumni as well...all one of them/him. Try to meet alums in other areas of finance, and even just general businessmen, if you haven't already.
As far as networking goes I wouldn't expect anyone actually in the industry to be interested, but I think this could be a great place for undergrads to network.
some applicants are ungrateful bastards who waste your time
I'd pretty much only try to hook up a real thirsty kid who has a sincere want to be in IB instead of some prestige whore who will just as easily end up going to law school.
If I were in a real baller position I wouldn't care as much if I stuck my neck out for someone.

Why not try PMing people you think give good advice? Ask if they'd be comfortable talking to you more in-depth. Boom, there's you're network. Alternatively, go to the conference and meet 'em in real life. Problem solved.
