Will my CV matter from now on?

I've managed to get a place on a BB spring program (top 3 - perhaps no.1) but go to a non-target school, have a low GPA and no contacts. I have related work experience, and a lot of outstanding extra-curriculars (an HR lady even recalled them when noticing my name on my expenses form at the inteview). I must have interviewed well to get a place, but my big question is will the low GPA hinder me from getting a straight offer for an SA next year? Or once you get past the CV-screening stage is it your performance alone that counts?

N.B - i was completely honest on my application, they know all about my less-than-impressive academics.

Thanks

Work your damn ass off, make everyone love you, and you'll likely get an offer without saying anything. This is your moment to shine. Get some sleep, clear EVERYTHING else off your schedule, and rock on dude.

Thanks for this. I take it you mean, i might have a bit more to prove but it can be done. Will heed your advice! What are your tips on work-shadowing? I need to make people "love" me by asking good questions but not being annoying? What sorts of questions would be good for S&T, market or job related?

You're thinking in the right direction, but also look for ways to connect on a personal level. Doing good work is priority #1, but right behind it is how much they just 'like' you and how you fit in. Small things like being early, staying late, ALWAYS be friendly enough. Never kiss ass, people disrespect that, but always just be cool with people and let THEM friend you on their terms. Avoid the office sad sack (every office has one) at ALL COSTS, they're existance is poison.

Personally, I take people out for drinks and let THEM do the talking. Also: be cool to everyone. In my current job, a relative small fry happens to be best friends with a very high ranking executive here and put in a good word for me after just talking in the elevator everyday for a few weeks...I didn't even know about it until after the fact but every little bit helps.

Maybe read the book "How to win friends and influence people", it's surprisingly simple things that make people happy.

Nah fuck it. You can drop out now.

If it's so bad, how did I make it past 2 interviews and an applicant:place ratio of 30:1?

I don't know? You suck one helluva dick? Congratulations.

The point is you don't just "still have something to prove", you fucking have EVERYTHING to prove. You go to an average at best school with a weak GPA, getting int a 2 week spring GS program to see if you'll make the cut for SA is fucking nothing. You achieved nothing...not yet. You are not "in" so shut the fuck up with your placement ratios, you are subpar.

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.
