Would You Rather - IBD analyst at Goldman
Purely hypothetical:
Suppose you wanted to be an IBD analyst at Goldman...
Would you rather do an ER SA at Goldman OR an IBD SA at Macquarie and then interview for GS IBD for FT....

Career Resources
ER hands down.
^ agreed. goldman also moves people around acording to talent, so if you're good, you can transfer to ibd without too much hassle
ER easy
ER....no question.
Don't forget that internal transfers within GS are very common. ER for sure.
If this were IBD at another BB or Lazard/Greenhill/Evercore type it would be a much tougher decision.
In this case though, I definitely say ER at GS. Macquarie is respectable and still a strong firm globally and everything, it's just a much easier ride from the inside.
Also, it might go without saying, but obviously try to get into an industry group for ER in the industry you're trying to Bank in. You'll learn an excellent, relevant skill-set and will have decent exposure to the bankers so you can network into their group.
Are you serious?
You're comparing Macquarie to The Goldman Sachs?
You must be an idiot.
Lol GS overall is pretty shitty at ER compared to its peers.
ER at Goldman is probably your best choice.
^ yeah, I was shocked that the shop I'm at outranked them. ER and Asset Management seem to be the chinks in GS's armor.
That's a little racist, don't you think? I don't know if there's any indication that Goldman's ER and AM divisions have any more Asians than their dominant IBD or S&T franchises...
