Goldman's Intern & Interview Toolkit

I was writing about KKR’s sweet HCA exit but found this and thought that the monkeys here; particularly the interns and those still on the jobhunt, would appreciate this a little more instead.

Presumably in preparation for another barrage of intern apps, (or to minimize the screw ups) Goldman Sachs has come out with their own Summer Intern Toolkit and a pretty comprehensive Interview Guide.

I have to say it’s quite good, not WSO guides good mind you but it pretty much covers the basic necessities to help you in your internship and finally get that FT offer.

Here’s some excerpts from their Advice from Leaders column which I thought particularly helpful:

What are some classic mistakes that interns should avoid?

* Ignoring junior members of the team - they are key in the hiring process and can give the most relevant insights into the role and who you should meet.

* Not taking up offers of people's time. If someone asks you to join him or her for lunch, you should go. It is a precious opportunity.

What’s the most important lesson/piece of advice an intern should take away with him/her?

* You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

* The people you meet and work with over the summer will fall into one of three categories: managers, peers or subordinates. Manage every conversation you have and always manage your actions accordingly.

I couldn’t embed the interview tips videos so here’s the link. There’s also tips for networking, how to land the offer, and some intern do's and dont's.

I highly suggest you splurge on WSO's library of guides though; they’re much more comprehensive and would be invaluable for all the hours you spend trying to impress people while double fisting Starbucks.

Good luck landing those offers monkeys, there's still time. Show ‘em what you got and I hope to see you on the success stories page.

Thanks for this.
