How Do YOU Celebrate America?

I thought about trying to write something serious here today, but, I just couldn't. I'm sitting in the sun crushing beers and I just can't bring myself to think about something serious like what the hell is going on in Europe or any other financial news. What I was thinking about, though, is What is your go to food/beer/event on July 4th?

Some people crush the lake in boats and other simply sit in their backyard with the family and enjoy life without work for a day. What say you guys, especially those that live in large cities. Do you leave for the day? Something that always made me wonder. Anyway, Happy July 4th to everyone and hope you drink plenty of Budweiser and Hot Dogs. Oh, and let's all hope Joey Chestnut sets another record on Coney Island today.

The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.
- Theodore Roosevelt

What's right about America is that although we have a mess of problems, we have great capacity - intellect and resources - to do some thing about them.
- Henry Ford

I actually find it funny seeing how many people "celebrate" July, 4th. I know so many people who support the welfare/unaccountability/entitlement society that is brewing who simultaneously wish out a happy Independence Day and make a big deal out of it. As far as I am concerned, these people are traitors. I know this has little to do with your post but I had to vent.

Here to learn and hopefully pass on some knowledge as well. SB if I helped.

July 4th has always been my favorite holiday, primarily because it's the only major holiday that occurs during the summer, so it can be celebrated outdoors. Theres nothing better than relaxing on the lawn chair, with a burger, fresh of the grill onto my plate, and an ice cold beer. Generally, the entire family gets together, around 75-100 people, and we celebrate at a different house/backyard each year. Nothing crazy, no fireworks or anything, it's just calm and relaxing.

I agree with SR. No point being overly patriotic, but the fact that the holiday occurs during the summer is a big plus. I usually go home and celebrate it with the family - outdoor bbq, wine, and just relaxing in the sun.

I usually get a few friends together on my rooftop and NYPD makes an appearance around 7:30 PM. The guys wear American flag speedos, the girls wear bikinis, and we eat until we can't move anymore.

Last year I vowed to never go out to watch the fireworks again and I am standing my grounds.

I may not be on the Jedi Council, but I sure am great with the Force. See my WSO blog posts
