Lessons of a Master of the Universe -Part 2 of 2

In Part 1, the writer discusses his background as a Master of the Universe. Here in Part 2 he continues revealing traits and skilled moves of the best in the game.

Play to win, but be a good loser.
In life, no matter what others tell you, you’ll lose more often than you win. Lady Fortuna [Good Luck] is very capricious. She’ll slap you hard and silly-don’t be at her whim, but rather fly on her wings when she spreads it open.

Jealousy doesn't help. While not uncommon, if jealous of others success, it won’t bring you closer to your goal. I mean, if you are jealous of your buddy having a hot girlfriend, how is that going to help you [get her]? It’s a bittersweet moment to admit “I can’t get her”. Unless your buddy is the [awesome] type that shares drinks and girlfriends, you need to get that out of your mind.

Be the best at what you do. Not only succeed, but excel.

Often the question arises if Masters of the Universe are born or made. FT in 2010 makes the point that “good traders can disconnect from their emotional state”. I agree with that. Masters of the Universe have a certain personality trait where emotional grounds become erased.
Jacob Rothschild recently bet 200 million dollars that the euro will go down.

Billionaire hedge fund manager John Paulson made around 20 billion dollars betting against the U.S. housing market back in 2008. Hugh Hendry's hedge fund, Eclectica Asset Management, is profiting handsomely from the ailing Greek economy.

Let’s talk about another element of confusion in a young [and old] man’s life: women. Women are the weakest link. Women are in for the good ride. Yes, all of that is true.

I don’t believe you can be a Master of the Universe if you are a womanizer. Those who get “trophy” wives, they’re not very smart, are they? A woman is not a possession of any kind. Imagine collecting rattlesnakes, how foolish is that. I’ve had three girlfriends over the past few years and I’ve largely forgotten their charms and snaps . It’s a little outdated. I look back at those moments and I think: How could I have ever payed attention to such shenanigans ?

The problem with the battle of the sexes is that someone often has to win and the other loses. A Master of the Universe cuts his loses short.

If I was looking for a girl to marry, I would marry one that is a family girl. One that respects her job. I wouldn't marry one like Bankarella . She doesn't respect her job [there are thousands like her out there, btw] Her job is only a means to an end, the paycheck. Her ambitions will suck the life dry out of you. Remember, when you get married you give somebody the right to totally jack you over.

Sow good seeds in the garden of your enemy.
How's that ? A Master of the Universe doesn't believe in “friends” or “enemies”. When you have a lot of money, you'll be having lots of friends. Everybody will want to be near you, complement you. Meanwhile, you know what's in their mind [this MF has it too good]

Your closest friends can become your fiercest enemies. And vice-versa. It’s unintelligent to call someone a “friend” and another a “foe”. They’re the two sides to the same coin. You flip over the coin and you get the other side.

Setbacks

There’s never a smooth ride. Not for myself, not for anyone I know. Once you’re faced with a setback, have a plan B. Plan B generally means you are not putting your eggs in the same basket, you can take that loss, and still have some ground left. In finance, you can lose a lot and still rebuilt. There is one exception: trust. If you have violated the trust of your stakeholders, you have sustained a permanent loss, which will be hard or possible impossible to recover from.

Opportunities to make money are always there. Know, however, that a guy like Zuck (worth $17 Bn on paper, less now) is not a Master of the Universe. He’s just a kid who’s won the lottery.

Is this the end of Wall St. as we know it? NY Mag was asking that at bonus time last winter examining bankers "misery index".

What happened to those who lost [FT]?
It ain't over 'till it's over.

In 5 years from now you will not be the same. You will be better or worse, but you will not be that same person.

Have a plan for your life. Map it out. Stick to it.

Quote of the Week

Somebody once said that in looking for people to hire, you should look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if they don't have the first, the other two will kill you.

Is this a troll post?

Was it Part 1 that made no sense and read as though a crack-head wrote it? Now more bs and some common sense. A Master of the Uni doesn't have friends, and Zuck is not a Master of the Uni?? You are quite the assclown bro.

Yeah, this thread makes even less sense than his last one.

Financier4Hire writes more like a Wow gold seller than a "seasoned private equity financier."

seems fairly straight forward. thanks for the invaluable information, master of the universe

in all seriousness though, good post, but living life to such a dedicated regimen just doesn't really seem worth it. despite what this forum is all about, i, along with many others, probably don't believe that money is the end all be all in life. important, yes- but not worth the attitude you would have us all adopt.

anyway, cool story bro and yes, i wouldn't marry bankerella either, but i kind of doubt she'd want to marry you
