Steiner: You Gotta Have Balls
How does a poor kid from Brooklyn end up buying Yankee Stadium? "Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat." would be the answer you'd get from Brandon Steiner, whose new book You Gotta Have Balls: How a Kid from Brooklyn Started From Scratch, Bought Yankee Stadium, and Created a Sports Empire is released today. It's a great story of the American dream at a time when many folks believe the American dream is dead. Steiner started his sports marketing company with $8,000 he managed to scrape together, and he took the company to over $5 million in sales in just six years. From there it grew until he was selling the actual dirt from Yankee Stadium for over $20 million. His advice? Work longer and harder than anyone else, and master your soft skills:
Nice find.
One thing I've really been seeing a lot of lately, and now agreeing with, are his views on passion.
"Passion doesn't lead to commitment."
Had never heard of him before but I might have to check out this book. Thanks.
Now thats some shitty advice.
taken out of context.. from amazon:
"Win If You Can, Lose If You Must, But Always Cheat.
Here, "cheating" means asking What Else, going the extra mile, gaining an edge. If you're trying to do a deal with someone, figure out what you can do for them beyond the parameters of the deal. Figure out how you can separate yourself."
Easy fellas..
-"I'm not your friend, buddy"
-"I'm not your buddy, pal"
-"I'm not your pal, guy"
-"I'm not your guy, friend"
-"I'm not your friend, pal"
-"I'm not your pal, buddy"
Either way ordered the book.. looking forward to reading it.
