Tucker Max Movie in Release Forum's RSS Feed

The movie based on Tucker Max's book, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell, is in the process of being released to 85 markets with hopes of a later wide release.

In the run-up to the release, Tucker has screened the film at 31 colleges nationwide, and he's hoping for a hit:

My first question: Has anybody here seen it? If so, is it any good?

I thought the book (and his website, for that matter) was utterly hysterical, but I couldn't imagine how they'd make it into a movie.

In any case, I'm looking forward to it. Anyone else?

I've read the book, it was hilarious but not too excited about the movie. Looks too cliched.

it's mainly based on his austin road trip story, not the whole book, and it's definitely been changed up a bit.

as far as SAC's comment, i don't think it will be cliche at all, from what i've read. it's nothing like american pie, it's nothing like the hangover, etc.

we'll see, though - i admit i'm a huge tucker max fan and i haven't seen it yet.

I saw it about a month ago. I hadn't read the book so I thought it was hilarious. However, a friend of mine who had read the book thought it was just ok and that the book was a lot better. They did change it up and it was only a few stories out of the book made into a plot with a moral at the end. Tucker Max was at the premier and talked about breaking the book up into multiple movies. So if this one does well, he will make at least two more.

now that it's in theatres, i'm really curious how it's doing. i've been following the production and the financing of the movie in his blog, and they have a lot riding on their box office numbers. tucker thinks it could do over $200 million.

Epic Fail.

Box Office Mojo will have the per-screens tomorrow. That will tell the real story.

Which is respectable, but by no means a breakout hit.

Yeah, he's been saying over the past few months that he was expecting it to either be a blowout or an utter failure. But it was neither. Most recent blog post says they're gonna extend the tour and try to raise awareness. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out for them.

My bet is that it won't become tremendously popular until later, in the way that Office Space did.

I like the guy

by Edmundo Braverman User's RSS Feed Certified User (Senior Neanderthal, 4292 Banana Points Points) on 9/28/09 at 6:47pm

And I hope his movie does well, if for no other reason than amoral drunken hedonists are an under-served market by Hollywood. It's just hard for me to picture a Tucker Max movie. I was a huge fan of the stories on his site when they were basically brand new; the guy cracked me up.

But to do it right the movie would have to be a HARD NC-17, and that just isn't the case.
