NON EU STUDENT QUERIES ABOUT MS FINANCE AND RECRUITMENT IN ASSET MANAGEMENT

Hi all! I am new to WSO. I am a non-eu economics undergraduate. I am planning to do masters in finance just after my graduation also I'll be sitting for CFA level 1 in my final year(Dec, '18). Investment management graduate jobs are not much there in my country and I am personally inclined towards Europe and Australia. I don't have any preference for locations as far as they are in Europe and Australia. I need advice on European business schools which have a reputation for placing non EU kids in Europe only. Also, I am not asking much about Australia because I have a completely different question about it which I'll ask later.

I am planning to apply to RSM(Netherlands), IE business school, Manchester, Edinburgh, Stockholm school of economics, Cass, WHU. Also, I know to some of you it might sound strange, but I am thinking of trinity college Dublin and UC Dublin as well for just Ireland job market only. I am completely unaware of fund management business in Ireland. Ireland also has an advantage that I can stay there after graduation to seek job for over a year.

I don't care whether I end up managing money of insurance companies or pension funds or banks or mutual funds. I just like managing money and invest it. One disadvantage along with being non EU is that only language I am proficient is English. I know I may suffer in Germany. Also, I don't hold any internship as of now because they aren't available to undergrads here :(

I have not included some obvious business schools or universities in the UK and France because I know that they place well. I am just want to be rational right now. Getting selected by those schools is pretty rough in comparison to the names I mentioned according to some posts. I just want your opinions on schools that I mentioned and how well do they place students in Asset Management/equity research?

I am nervous right now because I don't know what schools should I apply to and what am I missing and what things should I focus on because I still have time.

Your best choice will be schools in the UK. Being non EU will put you at a huge disadvantage in most of the recruiting processes. Your main concern will be working permit. If you go to German business school, your potential target will be Frankfurt. For London, u'll need additional visa. Unless u're an exceptional candidate, BB/EBs or other financial institutions wont sponsor.

Go to German business school only if u speak German at a native level or you get scholarship.

Try Dutch universities: RSM is pretty good here, maybe University of Amsterdam, Free University of Amsterdam. The good thing in NL is that you can have an internship during your studies and it is easy to make it full time job offer. Also, everybody here speaks English, which is also helpful.

Thank you so much for sharing your sugegstions Godzilla123 and @nono123

I don't speak german so I guess Germany is out of the picture. I have shortlisted UK, Netherlands and Ireland in Europe. I don't know if I'll be considered exceptional because I read somewhere that application process for internships an entry level graduate programs in UK begin in October. I'll only have my undergrad and little history of showcasing my interest in financial markets by that time. Do you think networking is the only way out to secure positions? What things I can do while studying which may help me to showcase my interest in financial markets?

I liked the idea that one can do internships while studying in Netherlands. I didnt know it. Thanks!
