Bring guitar on the road?
Hi all I'll be starting at a 2nd tier firm in the fall, I have a question:
I am a very good guitar player (steel string, mostly flat picking, but it depends), as in I'm good enough that if I concentrated on it fulltime for about a year I could definitely 'go pro'.
When I go on the road would it be possible to bring a guitar with me the first time and then leave it at the hotel so I can get maybe a few hours of practice in a week? Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?
Thanks guys.
Go for it. After 1-2 flights you'll see why I told you to go for it.
I think you're misunderstanding my question.
Say I'm 3 months on a client site, flying back and forth every week. If I take it the first time I go, could I leave it at whatever hotel I'm staying at, and then bring it back after the engagement is over? Essentailly I'd only be taking it twice per engagement.
Sounds like a question the hotel staff are better suited to answer.
Looks like you know better than not carrying it around every week. Monday morning/Thursday afternoon flights are packed people will hate your guts for taking up that much space in overhead.
You can leave it in the hotel and many of us used to leave a luggage behind with stuff. Just be careful about not getting a surprising roll off (come home Thursday, on Friday call you find out project is canceled).
And there is always this: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014241278873233933045783583904596734…
Bump, same exact situation anonone (2nd tier fall, dedicated musician since age 5 - we should start a band!). also have this question. Would like to hear from someone who has left an instrument at a hotel for a prolonged period of time. It's therepuetic to play guitar so after a long day at the client an hour or two with my guitar in the hotel room would be amazing.
Quick problem I see with this is sometimes consultants like to bounce around hotels in the city to keep status, but from the hotel's perspective I guess you're just taking it to and from their storage room so no biggie?
Nice! This will mean something to you then, I played with Doc Watson before he passed, one of the best moments of my life.
Also glad to see this isn't totally insane and sounds doable everyoe, thanks.
damn brother sounds like a good story.
He was one of the most genuine nice and encouraging people I've ever met, literally man, it was awesome
I've left golf clubs for weeks with no problem. Some consultants "bounce around" but it's also nice to try to create as much of a routine as possible
