Does Following the Money Always Ring True?

With the amount of consulting firms working with the same companies on the same projects, does it really matter which firm you work with as long as the money is right?

Is there really a productive reasoning not to go to one firm over another for a 5k-10k difference in pay? I see alot of consultants jump around and back to their original firms for pay increase and titles.

I'm assuming that working with a smaller firm for the same or litle less money as working with a larger firm really provides no difference....
