TSG at Bain to Analyst or Associate

Hi there,

So I am currently interviewing for a tech support position at Bain (TSG ,tech support group), but have several questions about the firm and lateral movement.

A little background about myself, I just graduated from undergrad at a business school with a degree in Management Information Systems. I am a highly technical person, know computer languages SQL, Python, Ruby, Excel VBA, Mac OSX, and HTML/CSS.

After reviewing the position, it seems that I would be helping analysts and consultants at the firm if they have an technical issues.
I currently have another final round interview as a consultant for a small IS firm, which uses my skills but doesn't have the BIG name that Bain has.

My main questions are:

1.) How has life been working at Bain?

2.) Is it possible to make a lateral move from TSG to maybe an analyst role or an associate consultant role?

3.) Would working at a role like this make it harder to go into consulting?

4.) Should I go with the small IS consulting company which is tailored to my skills or bank on the lateral move at Bain?

Any insight would be appreciated!

Here are many reviews about working at Bain: http://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Bain-and-Company-Reviews-E3752.htm. If you contribute an interview report, company review, or compensation information to WSO, you can also access the reviews on here too.

In regards to the role, do you mean the Technical Services Group? If so, that is essentially an IT help desk role. Unfortunately, lateralling into AC, while not impossible, is pretty much impossible barring some miracle (saving Bill Bain's scions' lives for instance).

If you want to do consulting, take the small consultancy role. Doing IT would be a dead end and a mistake.

Best of luck.
