So it looks like I will be starting an internship in ER in June. I have been told that it is technically a 3 month internship but it will probably turn into more like 5 or 6 months. The prospect of getting a full time position, at least with this analyst, seem very slim, but obviously the experience will be worth it in terms of getting interviews and a FT position when recruiting starts again after the summer.
I am extremely excited about it as I have worked tirelessly to get an opportunity like this.
However, I also had applied to go on a Birthrite trip back in February. For those not familiar with what thath is, it is a free 10 day trip to Israel.
I just found out I have been accepted to go to Israel on one of their trips from June 23- July 4.
I'm not sure how it will be perceived if I were to begin this internship in the beginning of June and then 2 or 3 weeks in, leave for 10 days.
I woud absolutely love to go to Israel as I have heard nothing but amazing stories from friends that have participated in the same trip I was accepted to.
At the same time, I know how limited the opportunitites are and how hard I had to work to get this one and don't want to do something that my jeapordize my career.
What do you guys think I should do?
Is this the only time of the year that those trips occur?
They occur in the winter and the summer. However, it's fairly tough to get on a trip seeing as so many people apply.
I've been applying for 3 years now and I think the only reason I got on this time is because of that, I'm 24 (only do trips for people up to 26) and I also persistently emailed them about getting on a trip.
I pretty much see this as my only opportunity to go on a trip like this.
I've obviously been in contact with the organization to try and switch my trip but from what I have been told by people close to the organization and from the person I spoke with that works there this morning, it is next to impossible to switch your dates.
Change the dates of the trip. Birthright runs countless trips at all times of the year. They'll hate you for it but they'll help you out if you tell them your story

So you're debating risking an opportunity which could provide the foundation of the rest of your career, and for which you apparently worked for an extended period of time all for the sake of ten days of vacation. Really?
This comes down to personal preference
If you go ahead with the vacation idea youre gonna piss your colleagues off
Do the internship. It'll be more valuable to your future than the free Israel trip, which you could just pay and go on later. It's a tough market and you are lucky to get have a great internship... you don't want to mess that up. It's tough to give up a free trip... but at 24, i'm sure you know what the "right" decision is. Agree with what others have to say. If you cannot make both work it's all down to what you value more - potentially building solid foundations for your career or a 10 day trip to Israel. I'm sure the trip would be fun, but taking that up over a good/great internship would be a bit too short-sighted (at least for me personally, assuming you do want to go into finance).
