Associate Shoe Game
As a seasoned veteran getting ready to assume an associate position, I can't help but notice that my shoe game, while strong, is not up to par with other associates on my team.
I currently own:
2x Allen Edmonds Park Avenues (Black/Black)
1x Gucci Loafers (Black)
1x Zara Loafers (Casual, average looking, poor quality)
1x Church's "strap" style (Black)
2x Gucci casual loafers for weekend (blue/brown)
Any thoughts on the next set of loafers? I'd like a very nice pair or two of Ferragamo/Gucci loafers, but not too sure what to go with and where to buy. I'd also consider a pair of brown dress shoes, although I'm not a fan of brown shoes at all in the workplace unless on Friday or weekend.
Thanks,
Booger
My associates all had croc skin loafers on their wishlist...red was the popular color choice
I only wear Church's. No exceptions.
Just your preference? Do you not like Italian?
john lobb, edward green, grenson , gaziano & girling and ferragamo are the best shoes in terms of quality .
Side note: I hope to God your loafers dont have any logos or obvious signs that theyre gucci
I'd get a pair of AE boots or something. That would look stylish. I have about 6 pairs of shoes (A&E, Testoni, Ferragamo, and Coach [about to be trashed]). I honestly wear maybe 3-4 regularly.
zara loafers lol
Such horrible quality, but I needed a quick fix on a business trip and they've just kind of...hung around.
Trade one park ave for a bourbon strand
Alden are awesome.
I have like 7 pairs of AE shoes and no shame in that (PA in black/merlot, 5th ave in walnut/burnished brown/black, Mcallisters in walnut, Rutledge in walnut) + sadly a pair of boots and casual shoes. The problem is that I wear the black or burnished brown Mon-Thurs... and 1 pair of the Walnuts on Friday.
I've also been tempted to get some John Lobb's but that price is ahh... think about how much you're paying pre-tax of your income (+ income tax on the shoes).
I'm not big into loafers tho.
Time to step up. St. Crispin's, Corthay, Berluti, Gaziano & Girling, Edward Green, Alfred Sargent, and Foster & Son are some of my favorite brands to window shop (I'm no baller associate...yet). I believe all of the brands I mentioned offer bespoke services, as well.
Browse Leffot for some ideas and then check out the store on 10 Christopher Street for size and fit.
+1. I would also throw Lobb into that mix without a question (I assume you just forgot?).
I have a few pairs from some of those "baller" brands, but I love my Allen Edmonds just as much. I wear the shit out of them (they're my everyday/beater shoe) and they've held up extraordinarily well. At $300 a steal versus crap like Gucci/Ferragamo/Prada/Church's.
I had a pair of Ferragamo and Bruno Magli that were of inferior quality to Church shoes. John Lobb are amazing as well, but in my opinion are not worth the extra cost over Church's.
If you buy a pair of Church's and take care of them, they will last nearly forever.

Hahaha
These are amazing: http://us.christianlouboutin.com/us_en/shop/men/daddy-velvet.html
I can't believe that there are men willing to pay $1,000+ for those shoes.
Crockett Jones. Personal preference but I find most A&E and Alden shoes way too bulky/old fashioned. English shoemakers have a great balance between quality and looks without being too fashion forward which is the case with so many Italian brands.
Get a pair of shell cordovan Alden/AE loafers or oxfords. They look better, require less polishing and last much longer.
