ER GS, S&T JPM or M&A at top 20 Bank to get to L/S HF ?
Hello,
I have 2 internship interviews. The first one at GS in ER in London and the second one in Sales on the Equity Derivatives desk at JP Morgan (Paris). I can also apply to M&A offers but i doubt my ability to get such a good brandname.
I have already done an internship in Equity Research.
My mid/long term goal is to join a L/S HF but also to like my job enough to not burn out.
The criterias to choose my next internship are:
1) Exits opps
2) Earnings potential
3) Lifestyle
What would you choose in order to optimize my chances to get recruited by a HF ?
Is GIR that terrible from what we can read on WSO ?
Is it possible to go from GS ER to GS IB if I do good job ?
Thank you in advance
No personal experience, but I’ve read on here that internal mobility at GS is tough
Don’t listen to this if you’re an intern
At GS I saw like 10-15 interns from other divisions join IBD full time from internal mobility offered towards the end of their Summer last year
Hi, does this also apply to moving from Paris S&T to London IBD at JPM?
NYC or Europe?
Also, is it viable to transfer from a regional classics group in the U.S. to a different classics group in NYC?
Going GS ER > L/S fund would not be very hard, at least from what I have heard from recruiters.
GS equity research is fine - you can network and make it work and you will be doing much of the same tasks that you would on the buyside. Have at least one friend that has made the jump
GS equity research is notoriously bad. ER is just a cost center to fund their trading which is top of the street.
Yes that's what i've heard, but are HF prioritizing the analyst you were working for (his ranking on the II) or the training you had in your bank ?
I could understand your POV if i was considering making an entire career in ER by the way.
This person is in Paris. Give region-accurate responses, not general NYC stuff lol.
Afaik IBD/ER are the go tos for L/S, S&T is moreso for macro strata. GS ER should be a great choice.
