HF Controller

How does one become a HF controller? Do you need a CFA? How many years experience do you need? How much is the pay?

I'm asking b/c I have a position as a controller's analyst in Goldman's Investment Management Division w/ the group that does the valuations and pricing for their hedge funds. The head of the business department at my school said that if I get a CFA I can easily make the switch to a HF.

Not only that but my manager actually used to be a controller at a HF.

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
