advice for this summer

hey IBO, I was just wondering if you guys could help me decide what to do this summer... my interests lie in trading, so I dunno if I should post this in TT, but im sure most people there read this forum too, so it probably shouldn't matter. I'm an econ major at an Ivy and I have two options I can take this summer. Help me decide!

1) "power-trading" at a regional utilities company. I'll be working with traders, but I don't know how involved I'm going to be. The person I spoke to made it seem like I'd be doing menial office work, but i'm sure it'll be great on my resume. also, I'm not getting paid dick (a little above min-wage) so this is most def. an "experience" thing

2) independent study. a family friend of mine at j. aron is recommending this, and even said he could get me a few textbooks to read. the implication was that if i could demonstrate my understanding to him, he'll try to get me a custom-made internship the next summer. these books he mentioned sounded pretty intense (options, fixed income, technical analysis, etc) so I 'm pretty sure that I probably wouldn't be able to read through it all if I had a 9-5 job getting coffee for traders two towns over every day.

I am not sure, ehich one is better (I would personally choose the first), but you should know that even if you were doing BB trading, you would still be doing tons of menial work. S&T interns are kind of worthless in the sense that they can't do jack before the Series 7. So basically, any trading internship will be sitting behind a trader watching him do his stuff and then getting him coffeee when he needs it.
