Anyone have any opinions on the ASA Business Valuation designation (http://www.appraisers.org/BVhome.aspx) in terms of popularity, applicability and/or recognition? How about thoughts on whether these individuals can break into VC, PE or IB?
I used to work in small valuation shop where the MD had that designation.
Before joining the firm (and the valuation field) I've never heard of it. Some friends that work in M&A never heard of it neither; but I believe is well recognized in the valuation field. I recalled we got some projects because of the MD's accreditation....but those were fairly small deals.
where did you go from the valuation shop? i am 4 yrs into valuations and looking to move on not sure where to but would like to know about your story or what you have heard. I am thinking about trying my hand at the CFA but still deciding between that or the MBA.

You mean like getting an Actuarial Designation....the fuck are you talking about
American society of Appraisers. Its a big deal in corporate valuation firms. Wasn't sure if it transferred with any importance to m&a
zero importance
Yea no one cares...basically the only thing that matters is a CFA and even that is universally considered vital
Any accrediation is a good one. CFA seems the most important, but not really relevant to IB
