Breaking into Investment Banking from Real Estate
I am a recent grad with 2 years of full-time work experience in Canada (MTL) at a well-known Real Estate Lending fund. Currently working as a front-office analyst, the deal flow is pretty good, as well as the level of autonomy in developing financial models & investment memos, as well as the exposure to more senior members of the firm.
I want to move into an IB analyst role, have been networking for a few months but doesn't seem to bring anything for the moment. I am thinking about moving to the M&A/corporate finance team of one of the Big 4's, which is essentially the same work.
Should I keep networking and try to get in directly into banking in the following year (with a risk of getting pigeonholed if I can't manage to make the move)? Or move to the internal IB team at the Big 4's, work there for 1-3 years and move to a bank as an IB analyst/associate.
