Gifts for First YR Analyst
Looking for a gift for incoming IB analyst (my boyfriend). Thinking Barbour jacket, leather desk pad, is something related to work a good idea? Early 20s.... looking to spend around $200/$330, not opposed to stocks but need some guidance. Suggestions wanted!!!
Both are great ideas. I got a desk pad with a built in wireless iPhone charger as a gift that I use daily now. Also noise canceling headphones or maybe a reservation at a really nice restaurant
Great idea, lean towards something memorable - either a nice object he wouldn't buy himself or an experience. For headphones - I like the Bose QC45 which are just at the top of your range. Maybe go do an experience he has always wanted to do, like tickets to an event/show/game
I wouldn't get him stock, he will buy a lot of that on his own once he starts
W girlfriend for sure
What does that mean
It means he has a good girlfriend, but you don't have to worry about that
W - Win
L - Loss
2008, the burning of the library of Alexandria , 9/11 and D-Sol would for instance be a major L moments in history, in Fortnite terms
Other potential good ideas that don't have to break the bank but are a nicer touch
-wallet / card holder (know lots of men tend to hold one for a long time w/o replacing and it gets a bit worn looking)
-stone island (or similar higher end brand) vest or sweater (can be worn for work and also casually)
-wine / beer subscription if he likes alcohol
-tickets for a concert or event (e.g. if he has a favorite artist / type of music, experiences can be very memorable without adding more clutter if he is more minimalist)
Do ppl actually wear stone island to work??? Seems tacky af
Gotta get the badge in mate. Stone Island is so roadman I would not be able to take someone seriously if they wore it to the office.
Driving experiences are pretty solid. Don’t know many guys who (even if they’re not car guys — I’m not myself) wouldn’t enjoy spending an afternoon racing a dream vehicle.
Still think back to when I got to race a nice Porsche when my daily is a Honda Accord.
First off, you're awesome for wanting to treat him. Being really honest, a lot of dudes don't get flowers much in their lives, so if you want this to be memorable on top of any material object you are going to give him, I can almost guarantee that the flowers will make it a gift he'll never forget.
The other suggestions for gifts on the thread are great already just wanted to throw that in :)
Varies from guy to guy. Personally I don’t care about flowers and would want something that lasts.
Dude...that's gay
Don’t get me wrong I still want a new pair of loafers
Bro is a bottom 100%
This is awesome. My ex bought me a 25 dollar best buy gift card and made me pay for my birthday dinner. He's got a keeper.
Allen Edmond has a 40% sale rn and their Verona IIs are a great all around loafer, especially for weddings when you may get stepped on and everyday for work. Right in your price range on sale. The chili (cool red that’s not flashy) ones are 🔥 tbh and would make a great gift that he could get good use out of.
Hermes tie - can’t go wrong
Good idea but do not wear tie to work, even client meetings. Makes one seem like they came from the 20th century
Agreed, unless dude doesn't have any ties at all, would skip this (probably not getting as much utility out of this as some other suggestions provided).
Check out Cox The Saddler for deep discounts on Barbour jackets. They're a British authorized dealer but even after exchange rates and shipping, its still way way cheaper than you could find in the US. They ship internationally and have great CS.
I'm looking at this now and literally cannot believe my eyes. Am I missing something here on these prices or jackets? So much less than I've ever seen in the US
I was shocked too. I've spoken to them on the phone and read about them extensively online and they're very much an authorized seller. Good for us!
Second them, purchased from them when I was a poor college kid
Nomad wireless charger. Have the black leather and it’s great. It does have a slight humming sound which I’ve read indicates a cheap charger, but I got it on sale for like $80 and use it every day.
I’m a big fan of Nomad’s leather products and believe they make great gifts. My AirPods Pro, AirPods (which I can’t find), and iPhone all have the black leather case. I love how they feel.
If he doesn’t have AirPods Pro’s then that would be the best gift in that price range imo. I use mine every day for several hours
a lot of good options already mentioned but to add:
Do you know what industry group he's going to be in? Healthcare, tech, etc? If so, you should buy him a bunch of stocks in that sector. He and his new bank will love that.
I'm guessing you can get fired for this, but can someone explain why exactly or how the conflicts of interest arise? I'm pretty green
You're doing a deal on an M&A. You know exactly when the deal will close. You know how much its going to close for and can make an educated guess on how the market will react. You can trade off of that. The SEC calls and they fuck you.
Anal
Based
12 coupons, One for each month, he can use them for a bj anytime he wants and you can't refuse( within reason).
I'm sure he would love it if you were yelling at him for something and right between your rant he asks you for a bj.
This. Absolutely this.
What if they break up and she's already on to someone else?
Watch this be the boyfriend, odds are he actives this site too lol
I value experiences much more than physical items. You know your guy best. Sports fan? Get his tickets for himself and his buddies for before work starts. Likes to travel? Plan something he will appreciate. Something you can do together is also good and you can cement some memories because soon he will be so busy you will never see him.
Tech gadgets or books
Safe-for-office-wear perfume might be a good idea. Something like Maison Francis Kurkdjian's "Gentle Fluidity Silver" perhaps. Or if we're being very standard/simple/predictable, Creed "Aventus" or Roja "Elysium". Will note the first will cost you the least, but also isn't as popular as the latter 2 and actually looks like a selection that requires thought (vs. last two are pretty popular as is).
Fellow fraghead I c. Respect.
Will also suggest Parfums de Marly (PDM) Layton.
Fraghead indeed. Not sure I'd wear Layton to the office, maybe if she wants to smell it on her man she could gift it to him. PDM not really the best brand for office wear. Best fits will likely be MFK see-through bottles, BDK's blue bottles, Kilian's blue bottles (largely fresh-citrusy, white floral (laundry) type scents) and such.
A propecia prescription
$300 worth of INTC.
Damn absolute keeper gf if she has the commitment to descend into this swamp of a forum just to make him happy. Hope I find this kind of love
Thank you all so so much for these ideas!! So appreciate it.
My boyfriend is also an incoming analyst. Some good gifts I got for him are gym related if he’s into that. A nice dinner and going to something is always fun too. (I took him to the natural history museum since he loves animals). I honestly think they appreciate an event/experience more since it is more memorable to them and u will have less time to do that in the coming months.
Gf got me a Mont Blanc card holder which I can just use as a wallet since I don’t hold cash. 250 bucks and one of my most prized possessions tbh.
Also got me a pen when I first started “for when I sign my first deal” and I think that’s a super sweet gift too
