Gifts for First YR Analyst

Looking for a gift for incoming IB analyst (my boyfriend). Thinking Barbour jacket, leather desk pad, is something related to work a good idea? Early 20s.... looking to spend around $200/$330, not opposed to stocks but need some guidance. Suggestions wanted!!!

Great idea, lean towards something memorable - either a nice object he wouldn't buy himself or an experience. For headphones - I like the Bose QC45 which are just at the top of your range. Maybe go do an experience he has always wanted to do, like tickets to an event/show/game

I wouldn't get him stock, he will buy a lot of that on his own once he starts

Other potential good ideas that don't have to break the bank but are a nicer touch

-wallet / card holder (know lots of men tend to hold one for a long time w/o replacing and it gets a bit worn looking)

-stone island (or similar higher end brand) vest or sweater (can be worn for work and also casually)

-wine / beer subscription if he likes alcohol

-tickets for a concert or event (e.g. if he has a favorite artist / type of music, experiences can be very memorable without adding more clutter if he is more minimalist)

Driving experiences are pretty solid. Don’t know many guys who (even if they’re not car guys — I’m not myself) wouldn’t enjoy spending an afternoon racing a dream vehicle.

Still think back to when I got to race a nice Porsche when my daily is a Honda Accord.

First off, you're awesome for wanting to treat him. Being really honest, a lot of dudes don't get flowers much in their lives, so if you want this to be memorable on top of any material object you are going to give him, I can almost guarantee that the flowers will make it a gift he'll never forget.

The other suggestions for gifts on the thread are great already just wanted to throw that in :)

Allen Edmond has a 40% sale rn and their Verona IIs are a great all around loafer, especially for weddings when you may get stepped on and everyday for work. Right in your price range on sale. The chili (cool red that’s not flashy) ones are 🔥 tbh and would make a great gift that he could get good use out of.

Check out Cox The Saddler for deep discounts on Barbour jackets. They're a British authorized dealer but even after exchange rates and shipping, its still way way cheaper than you could find in the US. They ship internationally and have great CS

I was shocked too. I've spoken to them on the phone and read about them extensively online and they're very much an authorized seller. Good for us!

Nomad wireless charger. Have the black leather and it’s great. It does have a slight humming sound which I’ve read indicates a cheap charger, but I got it on sale for like $80 and use it every day.

I’m a big fan of Nomad’s leather products and believe they make great gifts. My AirPods Pro, AirPods (which I can’t find), and iPhone all have the black leather case. I love how they feel.

If he doesn’t have AirPods Pro’s then that would be the best gift in that price range imo. I use mine every day for several hours

a lot of good options already mentioned but to add:

  • Red or Brown Switch Mechanical Keyboards (full keys including number pad for bankers; $100-$200): suggested brands include Leopold, Keychron, etc)
  • Desk pad with charging gadgets

Do you know what industry group he's going to be in? Healthcare, tech, etc? If so, you should buy him a bunch of stocks in that sector. He and his new bank will love that.

You're doing a deal on an M&A. You know exactly when the deal will close. You know how much its going to close for and can make an educated guess on how the market will react. You can trade off of that. The SEC calls and they fuck you.

Safe-for-office-wear perfume might be a good idea. Something like Maison Francis Kurkdjian's "Gentle Fluidity Silver" perhaps. Or if we're being very standard/simple/predictable, Creed "Aventus" or Roja "Elysium". Will note the first will cost you the least, but also isn't as popular as the latter 2 and actually looks like a selection that requires thought (vs. last two are pretty popular as is).

Fellow fraghead I c. Respect.

Will also suggest Parfums de Marly (PDM) Layton.

Fraghead indeed. Not sure I'd wear Layton to the office, maybe if she wants to smell it on her man she could gift it to him. PDM not really the best brand for office wear. Best fits will likely be MFK see-through bottles, BDK's blue bottles, Kilian's blue bottles (largely fresh-citrusy, white floral (laundry) type scents) and such.

Damn absolute keeper gf if she has the commitment to descend into this swamp of a forum just to make him happy. Hope I find this kind of love

My boyfriend is also an incoming analyst. Some good gifts I got for him are gym related if he’s into that. A nice dinner and going to something is always fun too. (I took him to the natural history museum since he loves animals). I honestly think they appreciate an event/experience more since it is more memorable to them and u will have less time to do that in the coming months.
