Goldman Sachs Operations Analyst NYC. Salary + prospect

Hi guys, I am having a superday on operations analyst in NYC this upcoming week.

I am curious to know what salary range is for this position (GS Ops Analyst) in NYC in 2022. I understand there was a salary increased 30K last year for analyst. Was this salary increase only for Investment Banking Analyst? Or it’s for firmwide increase?

This is my first post at WSO, nice to meet everyone

I know ops folks in SLC tend to get around 55k. Bonus is 1k or less. I'd imagine NYC gets a cost of living adjustment upwards, but I doubt its anything crazy. I'd expect in the neighborhood of 70k all in. As far as outlook, I would probably not recommend staying in operations. Haven't heard good things about it. Unless you really love it for some reason, then more power to you.

Lateraling out is possible, but usually comes with a demotion. I've seen people make the jump from ops to GIR (Research) a few times. Often (But not always) you'll get moved down a peg in the process. For instance if you're a 3rd year analyst in ops, (on the verge of associate promotion), and you got a GIR offer, it would be to start over as a first year analyst in research.

I'm realizing this may sound overly negative and I don't mean it to be, getting any kind of superday is a great thing, and something a lot of society doesn't seem to be able to do. Just don't expect pay and prestige to be on par with IBD, S&T etc. Congratulations!

Worked in GS BO/MO as an intern in the NYC area. FT offer was 80k with 10k sign on and <10k year bonus. I networked like a mad man with school alumni in pretty much all FO divisions and was left with few leads. Ultimately declined the FT return, and got a FO role elsewhere. I would highly recommend not accepting an ops position if your goal is FO. The Goldman name (even in BO) can help you lateral to FO position at another firm (if very early in your career), but trust me, its extremely hard to lateral within GS from BO to FO
